The White Power scene

The White Power scene is made up individuals, groups and networks with right-wing extremist views prepared to use violence for political gain. As the scene consists of traditional organisations, local groups of friends and unorganised supporters, it is difficult to estimate how many persons are part of it. Two of its largest annual events at least give a hint; last year´s Salem March in December and People´s March on the Swedish National Day each gathered approximately 1,000 participants.
Hatred against the Establishment and its power structures, such as social institutions, media, multinational corporations and elected representatives of the people, is a dominant feature within the White Power scene.

There is a strong sub-culture, and supporters use music, parties, literature and symbols to express their group belonging. A wide range of books and other propaganda material is available via the Internet, and several concerts featuring White Power bands are arranged in Sweden every year. There are also other activities, including:
  • Propaganda dissemination - posters, magazines and leaflets.
  • Physical training - martial arts and field marches.
  • Lectures and study circles.

A movement rooted in racial ideology

The White Power scene is rooted in racial ideology. There is a belief that humanity can be divided into different races, with the white race being superior. There is also a notion of a Jewish world conspiracy known as the Zionist Occupation Government (ZOG). According to this notion, Jews have a large influence over the politicians, military, judicial system and media in the country. Historical revisionism is also part of this ideology, resulting, among other things, in the belief that the Holocaust never happened. Moreover, this ideology comprises homophobia and an extreme form of nationalism.
