Investigation into suspected terrorist attack plotting in Gothenburg

2011-09-12 |
The investigation process has begun, which means that interrogations and other investigative measures are underway. The four individuals arrested on Saturday, 10 September in Gothenburg are now in custody, suspected on probable grounds of preparation to commit a terrorist offence. The National Counter Terrorism Unit and the Västra Götaland County Police assisted in these arrests, which occurred without incident.
On Tuesday, 13 September, the inquiry leader, Agnetha Hilding Qvarnström, Deputy Chief District Prosecutor at the Public Prosecution Office for National Security, must decide whether these individuals are to be released or remanded in custody.

Due to the secrecy of the investigation, which is still in its initial stages, no further information can be communicated either by the Security Service or the by the inquiry leader.

Any tips concerning this case can be called in to the police tip-telephone 114 14. From abroad, dial +46 77 114 14 00.

The Security Service assesses that there is no need for public concern or any special general security measures.

Threat level to Sweden unchanged
The assessment of the terrorist threat to Sweden has remained unchanged since 1 October 2010, when it was raised from low to elevated. The National Centre for Terrorist Threat Assessment (NCT), which produces new threat assessments on a regular basis, has not raised the threat level.
