A focus on right-wing and left-wing extremist offences

In 2001, the Swedish Security Service chose to give priority to combating offences related to right-wing extremist groups and to the autonomous scene. This applied especially during the six-month Swedish EU presidency.

The US declared war on terrorism

On 11 September 2001, the US was hit by a series of terrorist attacks. Following the attacks, the fight against terrorism became an absolute priority, also at the Swedish Security Service.
