The publication is also available in Swedish; “SÄPO - Verksamhetsåret 2003" . The publication gives an account of Security Service activities in 2003, and also comments on world issues with a bearing on our activities. The Swedish Security Service has published annual reports since 1994. The 2003 issue is however the last in the series. As of 2005, our activities are accounted for in a new type of publication, where the first issue is entitled The Swedish Security Service 2005. The assassination of Sweden´s Foreign Minister - a threat to democracy
The assassination of Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was the overshadowing event of 2003. It was a severe attack on the democratic values of our society; values which the Security Service, among others, is to safeguard.The attack placed increasing demands on our Service. There were calls for qualified threat assessment analyses as well as for extended dignitary protection. A Dignitary Protection Commission, headed by former Chancellor of Justice Hans Regner, was appointed to review Security Service working methods in this field.
The fight against terrorism requires international co-operation
