Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
The publication is also available in Swedish; “Spridning av massförstörelsevapen".The publication gives a summary of the threat posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and missiles. It is intended as a guide book mainly for companies and authorities that may come into contact with this type of problem.
Increased access makes higher demands on non-proliferation efforts
Most state and non-state actors dissociate themselves from weapons of mass destruction. There is however a small number of actors showing increased interest. This, in combination with increasing access to the products, equipment and competence necessary to manufacture weapons of mass destruction, places considerable demands on Sweden´s non-proliferation efforts. It is therefore necessary to intensify the work as concerns weapons controls issues and disarmament. Authorities working together
For the past ten years, Swedish ministries and public authorities have worked together in two reference groups aiming to share knowledge and prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and carriers of such weapons. This work takes place mainly within the “Small Reference Group", but the “Large Reference Group" also meets when necessary. The Security Service is the convener for both reference groups, and the other group members are:- The Swedish Defence Research Agency
- The National Defence Radio Establishment
- The Swedish Armed Forces
- The National Inspectorate of Strategic Products
- The Swedish Emergency Management Agency
- The Swedish Coast Guard
- The National Police Board
- The Swedish Maritime Administration
- The National Board of Health and Welfare
- The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority
- The Swedish Rescue Services Agency
- The Board of Customs
