Life sentence for gross espionage upheld

Published 19 September 2023

Sweden’s Supreme Court will not accept the appeal in the case against the man sentenced by the Stockholm City Court and the Svea Court of Appeal to life imprisonment for crimes including gross espionage. The Supreme Court made its announcement on 19 September 2023.

The Supreme Court’s examination of the case has shown no reason to grant leave to appeal. The Svea Court of Appeal judgment – life imprisonment for gross espionage and unauthorised handling of secret information – is therefore upheld.

In the same case, the Stockholm City Court, in January of this year, sentenced another individual to imprisonment for nine years and ten months for gross espionage.
